Graduated in Biology in 2008, I have ever since been working on plant natural product chemistry. Defended my PhD in 2011, I am currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.
Monica Scognamiglio, PhD
I am working on natural product chemistry. Interested in plant derived molecules, I am studying them from two main points of view: on one side, I am trying to understand why plants produce these chemicals, on the other side I am looking for bioactive compounds that could be used in several fields (medicine, nutrition, pest management, etc.).
Since December 2019, I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor (RTBb, according to the Italian system) of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies (DiSTABiF) at University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” .
Post-doctoral researcher (Alexander von Humboldt fellow) – NMR/Biosynthesis Group, Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Jena DE (09/2015–12/2017).
Research assistant (Assegnista di ricerca) – DiSTABiF, Second University of Naples, Caserta IT (04/2014–04/2015).
Post-doctoral researcher (“L’Oréal for Women in Science”-UNESCO scholarship) – Department of Life Sciences, Second University of Naples, Caserta IT (11/2012–08/2013).
PhD in Resources and Environment, awarded on the 16/12/2011- Second University of Naples, Caserta IT (11/2008–12/2011).
Thesis “Phytochemical analysis of Mediterranean plants: metabolomic approach to study allelopathic interactions among coexisting species” (tutor: Prof. Pietro Monaco).
Internship (visiting PhD student) – Section Metabolomics, Division of Pharmacognosy, Institute Biology, Leiden University NL (09/2009–04/2010).
